Dwan should’ve checked behind on the river. Very few worse hands that’ll give him extra value. More hands that beat him.

Patrik Antonius had a pretty bad start this year, and at one point he was down over $3,6M. Guys, is it really possible to get free 50 $ from the sites like PokerFrik?

Did Tom Dwan really think Doyle Brunson, The Godfather of Poker, was gonna stack off another 47k to him with K10 or K8?

@alextm27 Dwan often makes thin value bets on the river not necessarily because it’s the most +EV play. For him to bet that river is generally going to be -EV. But the reason he does it is for meta-game purposes. People often fold better hands to Dwan because they know they often have to face multiple barrels if they call him. At other times they can call with much worse for the same reason, only they’re getting irritated by Dwan’s aggression.

@Xienis No, he didn’t know he had the best hand on any street. He could have been up against a set on the flop and a boat on the river. The reason he took the station mode check/call line is to keep Dwan’s range wide and to avoid the risk of raising and being called by a narrow range of hands that would generally have him beat.

@420passleft Old school is generally worse at hand reading. They tend to put people on too few hands instead of a proper hand range or rely on tells to see if an opponent is weak/strong. New school focuses on accurate hand ranges as opposed to just instinctive weak/strong tells. That’s why Doyle took the station mode check/call line against Dwan. He didn’t know what Dwan had so he wanted to keep Dwan’s range wide since he knew he’d often get called by better if he put in a raise at any street.
